Manchester United Wasting Time With Pogba’s Pursuit?

Recent reports claim that Manchester United are determined to bring Paul Pogba back to Old Trafford for £40m.

United boss David Moyes was spotted watching Juventus’s league match against Cagliari last weekend which, of course, did little to quash the speculation.
.
But for a whole host of logical reasons the chances of this deal happening are miniscule.
.
For starters it makes no business sense whatsoever for Manchester United to re-sign a player for £40m – forty million pounds – that was allowed to walk away from Old Trafford for free just 18 months earlier.
.
Sure, Chelsea have done something similar this week with midfielder Nemanja Matic, but the Blues sold him as part of the David Luiz deal three years ago.
.
United didn’t receive a penny for Pogba, who has established himself as one of Europe’s best young midfielders, despite spending the best part of three years coaching him for his inclusion in the Red Devils’ first team.

It’s hard not to argue that the failure to hold onto Pogba was the biggest mistake of Sir Alex Ferguson’s reign as Manchester United manager.

Which brings us nicely onto the next reason why this deal won’t take place: Fergie.
.
You could forgive Pogba if he felt slightly aggrieved about the way he was handled by Ferguson. The young midfielder knew precisely how good he was; it’s just baffling why the coaching staff didn’t think he was ready for first-team action.

On New Year’s Eve 2011, Pogba was named on the bench against Blackburn, while Rafael and Park Ji- Sung – two players who aren’t remoetely central midfielders – were given the nod by Ferguson for the two central midfield spots.

If Pogba felt like walking away from Old Trafford there and then, you couldn’t have blamed him.

United, as you may well recall, suffered an embarrassing 3-2 defeat that afternoon.

After spending most of his time in the youth and reserve teams at Old Trafford, the prospect of returning to the place where he endured much frustration is unlikely to appeal to the France international, who has come on leaps and bounds since leaving Manchester.

Would he have won the 2013 Golden Boy award had he stayed at Manchester United? Fat chance.

At this moment in time, Pogba has the world at his feet, and could join any of Europe’s top clubs.

Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly the frontrunners for his signature – and if a move back to France, along with a huge contract, appeals to him then a summer move looks likely.
.
But, just as they did in the summer by chasing the likes of Cesc Fabregas and Gareth Bale, Moyes and Co are wasting valuable time trying to sign Pogba.
