About 10 people were feared dead yesterday after a blast hit Jimeta Market in Yola, capital of Adamawa State. The attack suspected to be from a suicide bomber will be the first of such since Boko Haram insurgency began in 2009.
Vanguard reported a witness to have said that at least 10 people were killed and about 30 injured in the attack.
“We just finished observing the Maghrib prayer when we heard a loud blast near the market. He added that the casualty figure was likely to be high because the explosion occurred when many traders had closed their shops, and were rushing home,” a resident of the town, Salihu Aliyu was quoted to have told Premium Times.
Adamawa State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Othman confirmed the blast. However, he could not give the casualty figure.
The area attacked had since been cordoned off by the military.
