A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Dino Melaye, has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign, citing what he described as the administration’s failure to address insecurity in the country.
Melaye, a former senator representing Kogi West, made the call in a video posted on his X handle, where he expressed concern over the worsening security situation.
According to him, Nigerians are living in “perilous times,” alleging that the current administration has made unfulfilled promises in tackling insecurity.

“We live in perilous times… it’s a pitiable situation,” he said, accusing the government of lacking the capacity to effectively secure lives and property.
He further criticised the President’s handling of security challenges, referencing the killings of senior military officers and describing the situation as evidence of systemic failure.
“The constitution that Tinubu swore to is very clear, that the primary occupation of government shall be the security and welfare of the people. Today there is no welfare, not to talk of security,” Melaye stated.
The former lawmaker argued that the government had failed in its core responsibility, urging the President to step down.
“My advice to Tinubu is to resign. He is wearing an oversized shoe,” he added.
Melaye also expressed concern over what he described as a decline in the military’s ability to protect citizens, warning that insecurity has become widespread across the country.
He lamented that Nigeria now relies on foreign assistance for security support, describing the development as a setback for a nation once regarded as a regional power.
“Kidnapping is now a national industry… people are not safe in their homes, farms, or places of worship,” he said.
Melaye maintained that insecurity affects all Nigerians regardless of political affiliation, urging citizens to hold leaders accountable.
