Ex Chelsea and Ex-Ghana international, Michael Essien has revealed his African Team of the Decade, and it excludes Mikel John Obi.
Mikel Obi, who lifted the EPL with Chelsea in 2010 and 2015, won the UCL and UEL in 2012 and 2013 respectively, not forgetting the Afcon 2013 title, was not included due to Yaya Toure’s presence in the team.
Meanwhile, his front four consists of Samuel Eto’o, Drogba, Sadio Mane, and Mohamed Salah, and that cannot be argued against.
Very few people will argue with Eto’o and Drogba’s records and not so many football fans will belittle with what Liverpool duo, Mane and Salah are doing currently in world football.
They have been prolific for the Reds in recent seasons, and have played major roles to make their club great in Europe and England.
In what was also an unsurprising move, Essien named Vincent Enyeama of Nigeria the goalkeeper of the decade for his strides for the Super Eagles of Nigeria.
Essien’s Team of the Decade
Goalkeeper: Vincent Enyeama (Nigeria).
Defenders: Kolo Toure (Ivory Coast), Kalidou Koulibaly (Senegal), Mehdi Benatia (Morocco), Benoit Assou-Ekotto (Cameroon).
Midfielders: Michael Essien (Ghana), Yaya Toure (Ivory Coast).
Forwards: Sadio Mane (Senegal), Mohamed Salah (Egypt), Didier Drogba (Ivory Coast), Samuel Eto’o (Cameroon).
