Dele Alake, the Minister of Solid Minerals Development, has emphasized the necessity of fostering inter-agency collaboration to realize the current administration’s goal of implementing reforms in the mining sector, aiming to position solid minerals as a significant contributor to the nation’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Alake made this assertion during a meeting with the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, in his office on Thursday in Abuja.
In a statement released by his Special Assistant (Media), Segun Tomori, the minister acknowledged the pivotal role played by his information counterpart in supporting the current administration’s rise to power. He highlighted Idris as a formidable ally in conceptualizing media and communications strategies during and after the election campaigns.
“We have come a long way, and I am very pleased that he is at the helm of the information apparatus of this government. I personally have complete confidence in his ability and capacity to achieve the stated objectives of the government. So, it is an honor for me today to welcome him to this critical metals’ ministry – an epithet he gave to the ministry,” remarked Minister Alake.

In related news, the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, expressed satisfaction with the increased visibility brought to the mining sector under Alake’s leadership. Idris commended Alake for his intellect, focus, determination, and dexterity, stating that since assuming office, there has been a renewed interest in the sector.
“I have come to respect Alake’s intellect, focus, determination, and dexterity. He is willing to pitch for things that appear impossible, and you can see that in the way he has handled the Ministry of Solid Minerals. This ministry has been there. It is not a new ministry. It is one of the oldest ministries around, but not many people know about it. Since he came here, he has managed to put solid minerals on the front burner to the extent that people are becoming extremely envious of this ministry because of the work he has done. It is not a mistake that the President brought him here. He knows he can turn things around,” affirmed Minister Idris.
The information minister pledged to collaborate with the Ministry of Solid Minerals in projecting ongoing reforms and drawing the attention of Nigerians to what he described as a critical sector. He emphasized that achieving President Bola Tinubu’s vision of diversifying the economy through a revamped mining sector remains a unifying factor binding both ministries together.

Minister Idris expressed his commitment to working closely with Minister Alake to communicate the ongoing reforms effectively. He acknowledged the historical significance of the Ministry of Solid Minerals, emphasizing that the revitalization spearheaded by Alake has brought the sector into the spotlight.
Minister Alake, in turn, outlined the strategic initiatives being undertaken to reform the mining sector, making it more dynamic and responsive to contemporary economic needs. He stressed the need for a concerted effort from various government agencies to ensure the success of these reforms, highlighting the complex challenges faced by the sector.
During the discussion, both ministers explored potential areas of collaboration, including leveraging media platforms to disseminate information about the mining sector’s importance and the ongoing reforms. They recognized the power of effective communication in garnering public support and fostering understanding of the government’s initiatives.
Minister Alake emphasized the role of the Ministry of Information and National Orientation in shaping public perception and awareness. He expressed optimism that the collaboration between the two ministries would yield positive results, ultimately contributing to the growth and development of the mining sector.
In alignment with President Bola Tinubu’s vision for economic diversification, the ministers reiterated their commitment to working together to overcome challenges and transform the mining sector into a key driver of the nation’s economic prosperity. They recognized the need for sustained efforts and a holistic approach to address longstanding issues and create an environment conducive to sustainable growth in the mining industry.
