Manchester United manager Michael Carrick has confirmed that the club will not rush Matthijs de Ligt back into action before the end of the season. He recently had his say despite the defender returning to light training, and fans have been reacting.
Providing a detailed update on the defender’s condition, Carrick stated that while he is hoping to have De Ligt back as soon as possible, he cannot set any deadline for the Netherlands international’s return.

Michael added that Matthijs will only return when he is fully ready and good to go.
His words, “Matthijs is working towards being fit again. He’s doing a little bit on the grass and it’s progress. But there is not much else I can say. It’s one of those injuries and he’s rehabbing, he’s working to get fit. So we’re hoping to have him back as soon as possible… He’s back on the grass at the moment, in a small capacity, but he’s working towards it. So that’s positive. We’re all hoping that it keeps going in that direction.
I was certainly hoping there is a chance that he can [play] without putting any pressure on it or deadlines on it.
Of course, it’s something that we’re working towards and he’s working towards as well. So hopefully it’s the case, but there’s certainly no pressure overly to get him back. He needs to come back at the right time when he’s ready.”
On Lisandro Martinez, “Licha’s missing games for different reasons at the minute, which we won’t go into, but I understand why you are asking it. But no, I haven’t got concerns. I think we’ve got a mixed blend there of experience, of real quality and some young – I’d say more than talented really – two promising young players that have already shown what they can do.”
WOW.
Manchester United Football Club, commonly referred to as Man United or simply United, is a professional football club based in Old Trafford, Greater Manchester, England. The club competes in the Premier League, the top division in the English football league system.
Nicknamed the Red Devils, they were founded as Newton Heath LYR Football Club in 1878, but changed their name to Manchester United in 1902. After a spell playing in Clayton, Manchester, the club moved to their current stadium, Old Trafford, in 1910.
Alex Ferguson and his assistant Archie Knox arrived from Aberdeen on the day of Atkinson’s dismissal, and guided the club to an 11th-place finish in the league. Despite a second-place finish in 1987–88, the club was back in 11th place the following season. Reportedly on the verge of being dismissed, Ferguson’s job was saved by victory over Crystal Palace in the 1990 FA Cup final.
The following season, Manchester United claimed their first UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup title. That triumph allowed the club to compete in the European Super Cup for the first time, where United beat European Cup holders Red Star Belgrade 1–0 at Old Trafford. The club appeared in two consecutive League Cup finals in 1991 and 1992 the left and the right, but he’s not got any sense of danger yet, and empties the midfield area too readily.
