The Director of Defence Information, Chris Olukolade has informed that the troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force of the Counter – Terrorism Campaign have captured a massive armoury with arms and ammunition discarded by terrorists located in one of the camps that fell lately to the ongoing counter – terrorism operations.
According to the report, the large quantities of weapons recovered in the raid are still being evacuated from the scene of the night raid where several terrorists have died. It added that similar operations have taken place in coordination with the troops of the Multi-National Joint Task Force in the raiding of other camps located in the outskirts of Duguri, Polkime, Malafatori and other spots around the fringes of Lake Chad.
Chris Olukolade pointed out that substantial money in different currencies and denominations were also recovered from the camps. Adding, seven terrorists were captured in the operation, while one soldier died and five were wounded.
In another development, the troops who were undertaking cordon and search operations for the remnants of the daring terrorists who attacked the Giwa Barracks in Maiduguri recently had an encounter with some of the surviving terrorists in the general area of Kayamla and Alu Dam in the outskirts of Maiduguri.
Defence information has revealed that additional terrorists have been killed and arrested in the ongoing encounters; whereas those captured have been providing useful information towards discovery of the hide – outs of other terrorists. “It has been revealed that the terrorists are now desperate to either free or kill the ones being detained with a view to avenging or preventing further revelations about their operations and hide – outs as this has been frustrating their plans lately,” the report continued.
Olukolade also indicated that more bodies of fleeing terrorists have been discovered along their escape routes, just as the morale and fighting spirit of the troops have been boosted by the outcome of the operations, so far. “Cordon and search as well as patrols and pursuits by air and land are continuing in the entire mission area of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa States,” he stated.
