In a bid to douse tension generated by reports that the All Progressives Congress, APC, has concluded plans to field an all Muslim presidential ticket in 2015, the national leader of APC and former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari has debunked the rumor as false.
This would be the first time a high-ranking leader of the party would openly deny the report and set the records straight after the media feasted on statements by a chieftain of the party and ex-Aviation Minister, Chief Femi Fani-Kayode that the party is considering a Muhammadu Buhari and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu joint ticket in the 2015 general elections.
Reacting through his media aide, Malam Ya’u Darazau, Buhari explained that he had not made up his mind about running next year and so the issue of Tinubu emerging as his running mate does not even arise.
He said: “Those who will be presidential and vice-presidential flag bearers will be named during the party’s convention. It is untrue that the General will have Tinubu as his running mate in the 2015 elections and the matter hasn’t even been discussed.
“The General and, indeed, other party leaders are trying to unite the party now and ensure the success of the congresses. We don’t know where and how the rumour emerged because convention has to be conducted before presidential candidate and his running mate is chosen and this has not yet been done”, he said.
