The National Leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has reiterated his ambition to run for President, emphasising that his primary goal is to steer Nigeria out of its current economic crisis.
Kwankwaso made this declaration during a visit to the Osun State Party Secretariat over the weekend. He underscored the need to revitalise the state chapters of the party to ensure smooth and efficient administration.
According to him, strengthening these chapters will be crucial in the party’s bid to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed in a statement released by the Osun State Chairman of the NNPP, Dr Tosin Odeyemi, on Friday.
The statement revealed that Kwankwaso, who was represented by a three-man delegation during the visit, reassured party members that the NNPP remains focused on its role as the opposition and is prepared to rescue the Nigerian populace from the ongoing economic hardships.
Kwankwaso expressed satisfaction with the reports from various state chapters, particularly Osun, noting that they are a source of encouragement for him as the party’s national leader.
He acknowledged the challenges that lie ahead of the 2027 elections but stated that the party is fully prepared to overcome them.
“Reports from each state, especially Osun, have been quite uplifting.
We are fully aware of the obstacles we will face on the road to 2027, but we are well-prepared,” Kwankwaso said.
He further criticised past Nigerian leaders, accusing them of deliberately impoverishing the populace in order to manipulate them during elections.
He pledged that, unlike them, he would not deceive the citizens but instead work towards lifting the nation out of its current difficulties.
“Nigerians are beginning to see that previous leaders have intentionally used poverty as a tool to subjugate the people, only to offer them crumbs in exchange for votes during elections. I will not follow that path.
My aim is to rescue the country from this economic quagmire,” he added.
Kwankwaso assured party members that the NNPP is committed to working for the benefit of the masses.
He disclosed that the party had already started mobilising people across the nation and was equipping its state secretariats with the necessary resources, including vehicles, to ease movement and enhance party operations.
“The NNPP is a party with good intentions for the masses.
We are already mobilising people nationwide, equipping our state offices, and providing vehicles to facilitate movement and effective administration,” Kwankwaso stated.
