The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to address the deplorable condition of the Jalingo-Numan road, warning of mass protests if no action is taken.
NANS President, Mr. Lucky Emonefe, made the declaration on Saturday during the 3rd Inauguration Ceremony of the North East Zonal Executive Council of the union, held in Jalingo.
Describing the Jalingo-Numan road as one of the worst in the country, Emonefe referred to it as a “death trap,” especially for students in the North East region.

“We are giving the Federal Ministry of Works 14 days to ensure the contractor returns to the site. Failure to act will result in NANS relocating its national secretariat from Abuja to the North East in solidarity with affected students,” Emonefe stated.
The NANS president also declared a state of emergency on the road and vowed to hold the government accountable for its neglect.
In his address, Emonefe commended Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas, for implementing student-friendly policies, including free education and a 50% reduction in tuition fees for tertiary institutions in the state.
He also expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for introducing the student loan scheme under the “Renewed Hope Agenda,” which he said has significantly benefited Nigerian students.
Emonefe called on students nationwide to support the Tinubu administration for its continued success and urged the government to act promptly to avoid disruptions.
