The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Thursday, threatened to clamp down on Multi Choice Nigeria Limited, operators of the Digital Satellite Television (DStv), over failure to adhere to a court order stopping it from increasing its tarrif.

According to NANS, the South African satellite television company had not only shown disregard for the laws of the land, but had disregarded appeals to be fair in their billing systems.

“Multichoice has over the years treated Nigerian customers with much disdain. Unlike in other climes where Multichoice operates, Nigerians pay to watch local channels. Nigerians also pay exorbitant subscription charges compared to others despite poor services rendered,” said NANS, in a statement signed by its President, Com. Tijani Usman in Abuja.

“We have also observed that the company has been selling substandard decoders to Nigerian subscribers even, as it has refused to introduce the pay per view as it is obtainable elsewhere.

“These and many more are the evils being perpetrated against Nigeria by Multichoice. But what NANS will not condone is for the company to extend its rascality to brazenly disobeying the laws of the land.”

The student body therefore called on the relevant authorities to wade into the matter to ensure that such disregard for court order does not become a norm for other companies. However, if nothing is done, the association says it will be forced to piquet Multichoice.

NANS also called on subscribers to begin a boycott of all Multichoice products including DSTv and GoTv.
