The organised labour in Nasarawa State has suspended its indefinite strike after reaching an agreement with the state government on the consequential adjustments to the minimum wage for workers.
Labour leaders made the announcement during a joint press conference on Monday in Lafia, the state capital.
InfoStride News recalls that the organised labour, comprising the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), began the strike on December 1 in compliance with a directive from their national leadership to commence industrial action if state governors failed to implement the new minimum wage.
Speaking at the press briefing, NLC Chairman Ismaila Okoh said the agreement was reached after extensive negotiations with the state government and interventions by key stakeholders.
A template has been finalised for the consequential adjustments of the minimum wage for workers on Grade Levels 7 to 16, Okoh stated.
Also speaking, TUC Chairman Mohammed Doma confirmed that payment of the new minimum wage, including the agreed adjustments, would commence from December 1.
The labour leaders commended workers for their resilience, solidarity, and peaceful conduct during the strike.
They further directed workers to resume at their offices and duty posts immediately and take their responsibilities seriously.
