NASS Crisis: Oyo APC Summons Senators, Rep Members, Vows To Punish Anti-party Lawmakers

APCThe All Progressives Congress in Oyo State has vowed to wield the big stick against any of its members in the Senate and House of Representatives found to have worked against the party’s choice of consensus candidates for the principal offices in both legislative chambers.

The National Assembly leadership elections exposed the lack of internal discipline in the governing party as its lawmakers disregarded the party’s nominations, which resulted in the emergence of principal officers outside the APC preferred list.

In a statement issued by the APC’s Director of Publicity and Strategy in Oyo State, Olawale Sadare yesterday in Ibadan, the party decried the development while also blaming over-zealous individuals working against the party’s change project and the success of President Muhammadu Buhari.

The statement added that it had identified lawmakers from Oyo State, who worked against the party interest.

The statement said, “As patriotic citizens and committed change agents, the leadership and members of the APC in Oyo State are embarrassed by the present situation in both chambers of the National Assembly. And as a responsible and loyal chapter which appreciates party supremacy as being fundamental, we identify with the position of the national headquarters of our great party which revolves around decency, discipline and national interest.

“We are very much aware of the inglorious roles being played by some of our members elected as federal lawmakers who conspired with the Peoples Democratic Party elements to truncate the painstaking efforts of the APC to guide the majority (of our) members on the choice of leadership that could work with Mr. President to deliver on his promises and move the country to an unprecedented height in no time.

“Specifically, we watched on the television how a particular member of the House of Assembly from the state was man-handled by his colleagues before he was rescued in his torn clothes. This development caused the good people of the state a monumental embarrassment as the said victim got the disgraceful treatment in his attempt to safeguard his personal interest following his earlier disregard for the directive on the party’s choice candidates for the principal offices”.

The party said all affected lawmakers have been summoned to explain their roles in the National Assembly crisis, promising to wield the big stick if any of them was found guilty of disrespecting the party order.

“The party has summoned the lawmakers… to explain their roles in the whole saga. The public is assured that… any other Senator or House of Representatives members found to have participated in the June 9, 2015 saga to the disadvantage of the APC would be summarily dealt with in accordance with the Constitution of the party”, the statement read in part.
