The former Minister of Information, Prof. Dora Akunyili has said that the ongoing National Conference is “The best Centenary gift President Jonathan has given to the Nigerian people.” She made this declaration at the ongoing delegates’ debate on the President’s inaugural speech at the Confab being held at Mohammed Bello Centre, National Judicial Institute, Abuja.
Prof. Dora Akunyili, a delegate representing Anambra State, South East Nigeria, praised Mr. President’s indomitable spirit and courage for convoking the national conference at a time like this. She said, the President means well for the nation.
The past Information Minister therefore, urged delegates to avail themselves of the opportunity and discuss issues confronting the nation. She also urged her fellow delegates to proffer solutions that will stand the test of time with a view to creating a virile and strong nation.
Whilst Prof. Akunyili observed that, “Our common values supersede our differences”; she enjoined delegates to be opened and sincere in discussing all issues militating against the nation’s growth and development.
The former Minister also urged conferees to respect what the President directed of the indivisibility and indissolubility of the country.
The Professor said, “A society grows great when old men grow trees whose shade they will not sit in.”
Similarly, a delegate, Hajiya Amina B. Omoti, representing Muslim Leaders, in her contribution lent credence to Prof. Dora Akunyili’s position. She urged the conference’s delegates to plant trees that will produce shade for the future generations.
