Alhaji Ibrahim Birnin-Tsaba, former Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, said the proposed National Conference would help Nigerians to understand and accommodate their differences.
.
Ibrahim told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Sokoto on Saturday that it was necessary to discuss with each other so as to appreciate mutual differences and seek out ways to live with them.
.
“Nigerians come from diverse backgrounds – religion, culture and ethnicity. We should come together, understand these differences and accommodate them’’, he said.
.
He held that the unity of the nation should never be compromised during and after the conference.
.
The former SSG described the conference as a welcome development, and stressed that it would make Nigeria stronger and better.
.
He emphasised the need for leaders to always strive to be transparent, and advocated harsher punishments for corrupt persons.
.
“We must empower and strengthen anti-corruption agencies to effectively tackle the menace that is gradually destroying our foundation’’, he said. Birnin-Tsaba called for the allocation of more funds to boost the agricultural sector so as to guarantee food security.
.
“If this is done, the embarrassment of importing even basic food will be checked because Nigeria should actually not be involved in that in view of our potential in that sector.’’
.
He also called for more attention to be paid to other natural resources, pointing out that such had become very crucial to diversity revenue sources and minimise the dependence on oil proceeds.
