    NBS: Benue, Abia, Cross River paid highest for petrol in June

    The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) says Benue, Abia and Cross River states paid highest for premium motor spirit (PMS), better known as petrol, at an average price of N175.22 in June 2021.

    This is contained in NBS report, titled: ‘Premium motor spirit (petrol) price watch (June 2021)’, released during the weekend.

    According to the report, petrol decreased by 1.46 percent to N165.61 in June from N168.06 in May, however, this represents an increase of 28.49 percent compared to the corresponding period in 2020.

    “States with the highest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Benue (N183.29), Abia (N171.88) and Cross River (N170.50),” the report reads.

    “States with the lowest average price of premium motor spirit (petrol) were Taraba (N157.33), Borno (N160.10) and Katsina (160.86).”

    Across the geopolitical zones, the report showed that the average petrol price was highest in the north-central at N168.84, followed by south-east (N168.28), and south-south (N166.51).

    Meanwhile, south-west, north-west and north-east recorded the lowest average petrol price at N164.90, N163.90 and N161.40 respectively.

    In another report, NBS said the average price for automotive gas oil (diesel) paid by consumers increased by 1.51 percent from N283.82 in May to N242.83 in June.

    “States with the highest average price of diesel were Edo (N264.18), Kwara (N261) and Niger (N260). States with the lowest average price of diesel were Gombe (N209), Plateau (N218.90) and Zamfara (N221.67),” the report added.

    NBS also said the average price for refilling a 5kg cylinder of liquified petroleum gas (LPG), better known as cooking gas, slightly decreased by 0.15 percent to N2,068.69 in June from N2,071.69 last month.

    However, the average price for refilling a 12.5kg cooking gas cylinder increased from N4,288.95 (0.002 percent) in May to N4,289.05 in June.

    The national household kerosene report for June indicated that the average price per litre paid by consumers increased by 1.87 percent from N363.50 in May to N370.29 in June.

    Meanwhile, the average price per gallon paid by consumers for kerosene decreased by 0.93 percent to N1,255.15 in June from N1,266.99 last month.
