The Yobe State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has destroyed 8,165 kilograms of illicit drugs following an order of the Federal High Court.
The destruction exercise, held in Damaturu, was conducted under the supervision of senior NDLEA officials and other relevant stakeholders.
Speaking during the event, the Director of Operations and General Investigations, DCGN Ahmed Suleiman Ningi, disclosed that the command had seized a total of 16,011 kilograms of various narcotics, comprising 13,595 kilograms of Cannabis Sativa, 2,476 kilograms of psychotropic substances, 0.04 kilograms of cocaine, and 0.1 kilograms of heroin.

He explained that while 8,165 kilograms were approved for destruction by the court, the remaining 7,846 kilograms were still undergoing judicial processes and were being securely kept in the agency’s exhibit room.
The Yobe State Commander of the NDLEA, CN Abdulaziz Kayode Ogungboye, described the exercise as evidence that the agency’s efforts in combating drug trafficking and abuse in the state were yielding tangible results.
