The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted a 40-foot trailer loaded with 2,217.6 kilograms of skunk, a potent strain of cannabis, in the Kagini area of Kubwa, Abuja.
FCT Operation
According to Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy at NDLEA Headquarters, the trailer was apprehended at an abandoned fuel station where the illicit consignment was being distributed into six vehicles for onward transportation to northern states.

The intelligence-led operation, conducted on Saturday, January 11, 2025, also led to the seizure of the trailer and six vehicles, including a Toyota Van, Camry, Sienna bus, JAC Hilux truck, Corolla, and a Vento Passat.
A suspect, 42-year-old Isaac Monday Desmond, was arrested in connection with the operation. Babafemi revealed that the consignment originated from Uzebba, Owan Local Government Area, Edo State.
Other Arrests and Seizures
- Nyanya Raid: Two suspects, Anthony Nnamdi (42) and Abba Ali (27), were arrested in the Nyanya area of the FCT. A combined total of 1.398 kilograms of cocaine and a precursor substance used for preparing crack cocaine were recovered.
- Logistics Firm in Lagos: NDLEA officers intercepted 330 grams of cocaine concealed in face cream containers in a shipment bound for Australia.
- Port Harcourt Ports Complex: A joint operation involving NDLEA, Customs, and other security agencies at Onne, Rivers State, uncovered two containers holding 338,200 bottles of codeine-based syrup worth over N1.1 billion in street value.
- Arrest of Shrine Leader: In Lagos, the chief priest of the Igunuko shrine in Alpha Beach, Lekki, Bariu Aliu (alias Malo), was arrested following a three-month manhunt. The shrine had been raided in October 2024, leading to the seizure of 2,760 kilograms of skunk. Two accomplices were previously arrested and convicted.
- Kano Raid: A 23-year-old suspect, Habibu Ya’u, was arrested in Gadar Tamburawa, Kano, with 45 blocks of cannabis weighing 24.2 kilograms and 40,800 opioid pills, including tramadol.

The Chairman/CEO of NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), commended the officers and men involved in the operations across the FCT, Lagos, Rivers, and Kano.
He lauded their efforts in drug supply reduction and demand reduction initiatives, emphasizing the agency’s commitment to curbing the drug menace nationwide.
