The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) Nasarawa State Command has announced the seizure of 7,149 kilograms of drugs between July 2023 and June 2024.
Peter Onche-Odaudu, the NDLEA Commander in the state, disclosed this at a news briefing on Thursday in Lafia.
The briefing was part of the week-long activities to mark the 2024 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

Onche-Odaudu highlighted the significant efforts made by the agency to combat drug abuse and illicit trafficking despite challenges such as logistics and limited funding.
He reported that the seizures included 7,037.2 kilograms of cannabis sativa, 0.011 kilograms of cocaine, 0.185 kilograms of methamphetamine, and 111.534 kilograms of various psychotropic substances.
The commander noted that the United Nations designates June 26 each year to commemorate the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
This year’s theme, “The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention,” underscores the importance of preventive measures in addressing drug abuse issues.
Onche-Odaudu emphasized that investing in prevention is crucial for tackling drug abuse effectively and called for continued support and resources to enhance the agency’s efforts.
