The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Kano State disclosed that it had apprehended 1,016 suspects and confiscated nine tons of illicit drugs in 2023.
Mr. Abubakar Idris-Ahmad, the Commandant of the NDLEA in Kano State, made this revelation to journalists in Kano on Sunday.
Out of the total number of suspects arrested, 40 were females, and 976 were males.

The agency achieved 102 convictions during the year, leading to the forfeiture of five vehicles, while 104 cases remained pending in court.
The seized drugs included 6,098 kilograms of Indian hemp, 1,696 kilograms of codeine and tramadol, and 1,335 kilograms of cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamine.
In addition to its law enforcement activities, the NDLEA in Kano State undertook several other initiatives.
They rehabilitated 70 clients, processed 598 visa clearance applications, and conducted 245 substance abuse tests, with six individuals testing positive for various drug abuses.
Furthermore, the agency sensitized 5,000 individuals and engaged Drug Demand Reduction professionals who counseled 1,459 persons.
The command also emphasized its commitment to combating drug abuse and trafficking. It destroyed over 15 tons of assorted narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in 2023.
Mr. Idris-Ahmad reiterated the command’s dedication to safeguarding communities from the harmful effects of drug abuse, promising to intensify efforts to dismantle drug networks, rehabilitate those in need, secure convictions, and eradicate illicit substances.
