IBIONO IBOM (NEMA Report)
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has provided relief materials to support the rehabilitation of victims of communal crisis in Ekimbuk Village in Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State where lives and property were lost to dispute over community land.
While presenting the items during the weekend, the Director-General of NEMA, Muhammad Sani Sani represented by the Director of Relief and Rehabilitation, Eugene Ezeh appealed to the warring communities to stop the incessant destruction of lives and property and embrace peace for national development. He also informed that the items delivered to them were based on the recommendations made by a joint assessment conducted by NEMA and the Akwa Ibom State Government, urging the State Government to ensure that the items get to the victims, who should make effective use of them.
He further charged the State Government to ensure that its State Emergency Management Agency is strengthened and afforded all the necessary support to reinforce disaster management in the state.
The Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Obong Moses Ekpo, who received the items on behalf of the State Government thanked the Federal Government for approving the relief items for the victims of the communal crisis. He intensified that communal crises has been responsible for untold losses and tears in villages and communities of the Local Government Area since 1956; inferring that the state would no longer tolerate the act of lawlessness.
“Henceforth any land in dispute in the state would automatically become the state government’s property and will be used for other developmental purposes,” he said. Items presented at the occasion include: food and non-food items.
