Former Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari is shocked by the coup that removed Bazoum as president of the Niger Republic.
Buhari said he had faith in President Bola Tinubu to find a solution, and Tinubu responded by expressing his own confidence in Buhari.
Buhari hoped that Tinubu could fix the problem and protect Bazoum’s loved ones.
Foreseeably, I, like millions of other Nigerians, am startled by the latest course of events in Niger Republic,” Buhari stated in a tweet.
President Mohammed Bazoum and his family’s safety has been called into question, as has the future of democracy as a system of government in the country and the larger sub-region.
My family and I share the general public’s alarm over these.
“It is heartening to note that the ECOWAS, under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is already dealing effectively with the matter,” the statement read. “Our hope and prayers are that the unwanted situation will be completely reversed, and the safety and wellbeing of President Bazoum and his family will be ensured.”
