The governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, on Saturday urged the electoral commission to review and if possible, repeat the Permanent Voter’s Card/Registration (PVC) in Lagos.
The candidate made the appeal at an endorsement rally organised by the Goodluck Ebele Jonathan Support Groups, NGO’s, Marketers and Traders for President Goodluck Jonathan and Mr. Agbaje’s 2015 bid.
Complaints had continued to trail the PVC distribution and registration of fresh voters by the electoral commission, INEC, in Lagos.
INEC had earlier said that no Nigerian of voting age would be left out of the process of obtaining the PVC for 2015.
Mr. Agbaje said that INEC must act swiftly to ensure that those who were still complaining were attended to.
“There are still so many people in Lagos that may be disenfranchised from the process.
“Lagos is not like other states. The population makes it different.
“The disappointment of most of the voters in obtaining the PVC may put them off and discourage them from participating in the 2015 polls”, he said.
He, however, urged the populace not to be deterred but to continue to visit INEC offices across the states for the cards.
On his plans for Lagos, the PDP candidate said that he would ensure rapid development in all sectors if elected.
“With a change in government in Lagos come 2015, the state will change to a state of the arts city in the next 10 years”, Mr. Agbaje said.
Samson Benjamin, the founder of the Resurrection Praise Ministry for Africa also urged INEC to re-do the exercise to ensure that no one was left out.
“Gathering at rallies is not a guarantee of success at the polls if people are not registered to vote”, he said.
He urged Nigerians to support the Goodluck/Sambo ticket by voting for them and for Agbaje.
Also speaking, the Vice President of the Market Leaders Association of Nigeria, Adamu Ligali, urged Nigerians to shun violence in the upcoming polls.
“We are one Nigeria and this nation cannot divide. Let us vote wisely for the Goodluck/Sambo and Agbaje tickets” he said.
The Lagos State Chairman of the PDP, Tunji Shelle, said that people should listen to issues as politicians began to campaign for votes.
“Nothing will stop the PDP from winning in Lagos because our mission is to rescue the state from oppression.
“The agitation of the people and residents of Lagos for a change of government with a human face in Lagos is part of our agenda.
“Our focus will be how to create an environment both economically and otherwise that will be beneficial to all and not just the rich,’’ he added.
