Defence Minister, Mansur Muhammad Dan-Ali while delivering an address at the graduation ceremony of the Executive Intelligence Management Course (EIMC) 2015 in Abuja has assured Nigerians that the activities of Boko Haram insurgents would soon come to an end. He also noted full conviction that the Nigerian military has the viable tool for tackling national insecurity.
Mansur Dan-Ali further stated that the activities of the insurgents in Nigeria will soon be a thing of the past and all areas under occupation will be liberated for people to go about their normal lives. While appreciating the inter-agency collaboration efforts between security services, he called for more synergies towards winning the hearts and minds of Nigerians in the fight against terrorism.
“Advocacies and other outreach programmes of the armed forces are aimed at gaining sympathies from the civilian populace which is critical in degrading terrorism,” he emphasized.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Director-General of State Security Services, Lawal Mohammed Daura averred that to overcome the challenges which Nigeria is currently facing as a nation, there is need for knowledge and that was why the Institute for Security Studies designed the comprehensive review of the Executive Intelligence Management Course curriculum.
He inferred that the idea behind the programme was to make the course contents highly responsive to and reflective of the rapidly evolving character and nature of the threat profile. He described as worthy of note the fact that one of the key failures identified in the United States September 9, 2011 US Commission Report is the failure of imagination.
Lawal Daura opined that the challenges of the country’s security services will be reduced when soft power elements such as intellectual and information sharing is deployed into daily security management activities. He charged the 2015 EIMC graduates to be intellectually alert and to possess a mindset that is adaptive, resourceful, knowledge-driven and technology-friendly.
