Ambassador Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, a prominent figure in the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has cautioned President Bola Tinubu against meddling in the affairs of the judiciary.
This advice comes in the wake of the Court of Appeal in Abuja recently annulling the victory of Kano State’s governor, Abba Yusuf, citing his non-membership in the political party.
Oguntoyinbo, who contested as the NNPP gubernatorial candidate in Ogun State in 2023, delivered this message on Tuesday, emphasizing the need for Tinubu to refrain from intimidating the judiciary.

In a statement shared with the media after expressing solidarity with Yusuf, Oguntoyinbo stated, “President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not interfere with the functions of the judiciary but instead allow the judiciary to function effectively as expected in democratic governance.”
He further cautioned against attempting to dominate the judiciary, highlighting the distinctions between Lagos, where Tinubu wielded significant influence over the political landscape, and the broader Nigerian context.
Oguntoyinbo expressed concern over what he perceived as the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and the President’s eagerness to control all states, alleging a push toward establishing a one-party system through judicial influence.
Referring to former Vice President Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s recent warning about the alleged plan to transform Nigeria into a one-party state, Oguntoyinbo echoed Atiku’s sentiments.
He urged statesmen to unite in cautioning President Tinubu against replicating the control he exerted in Lagos at the national level, emphasizing the importance of preserving a multi-party system in the country.
