The Bureau of Employment Generation in Ogun State (OGEGEP) has said that when established, the proposed Value Addition Centre would bridge the gap confronting young entrepreneurs in the processing, marketing and sale of their products.
Permanent Secretary of the Bureau, Engr. Mrs. Cecilia Olajide made this assertion during a joint meeting with other stakeholders on the centre, adding that the underlining vision behind its establishment was the need to have a home grown processing plant that would ensure that local farmers and entrepreneurs have corresponding values for their products.
Olajide said the centre was a major component of the strategy on employment generation programme of the State which focuses on agricultural products and called for the collaboration of relevant Ministries, Departments and Agencies to ensure smooth take-off.
“The Value Addition Centre is a major component of the strategy on employment generation and the key products here are agricultural products. The need to synergize with all related MDAs cannot be over emphasized’’, Olajide declared.
She said to realise this dream, her Bureau had visited both Federal and State agencies such as the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Technical Incubation Centre (TIC) and Raw Material Display Centre among others on ways of collaborating to ensure success.
In his remarks, Representative of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Oladipo Idowu said over the years, the Ministry had recorded monumental success in using funds and contributions from government and the private sector as loans to entrepreneurs in trading and farming to enhance their operations.
On his part, Dr. John Oni of the Technical Incubation Centre underscored the need to put the idea into practice without further delay, insisting that advantages derivable are enormous.
