Ogun State Government is leaving no stone unturned in providing adequate health care delivery to the citizenry especially in the fight against malaria.
Speaker of the State House of Assembly Rt. Hon. Suraj Ishola Adekunbi emphasized this when he hosted a Non-Governmental Organization, Health Reform Foundation that paid a courtesy visit to the Assembly complex.
The Speaker disclosed that since inception, the current administration has devoted more attention to the fight against malaria and other health related issues, assuring that the legislature would not rest on its oars at supporting the executive towards providing better health delivery service to the people.
Earlier, Chairman of the group, Alhaji Ayoola Salami called for a 25% allocation of the State budget to issues relating to the control of malaria in order to reduce infant mortality and death of pregnant women.
He commended the current administration’s programme on health, but called for more attention in the area of staffing and provision of medical equipment in hospitals across the State.
In a related development, Rt. Hon. Adekunbi has sought for more collaborative efforts of stakeholders from social and care givers to partner with government towards advancing socio- economic development of the State.
Adekunbi gave the charge in his office while receiving executive members of the State Chapter of the Nigeria Association of Social Workers, led by their Chairman, Chief Balogun Olagunju.
The Speaker said role of social workers in the socio- economic development of the people generally cannot be over emphasized, commending members of the association in the State for their contributions to the advancement of the society.
Earlier, Chief Olagunju had intimated the Speaker that his association was poised to re-engineer the society in order to address myriads of social problems. He noted that Social workers are Social advocate that ensure social and economic justice.
Balogun who lauded the State Government for releasing funds to upgrade facilities at the Social Development Institute at Shasha, Iperu, therefore called for appropriate legal frameworks to enhance the practice of social work in various agencies of government and private establishments.
