Definitely, 2018 is not a good year for the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ogun State as the party keeps licking its wounds and counting losses on regular basis. The defection of over 2000 members to opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on July 2, 2018, at Aiyetoro, Yewa South Local Government, was another huge blow to the party in the state.
Leading the defectors, Mr Muyideen Alao, hinged their decision to dump APC on the lacklustre performances of Sen Ibikunle Amosun whom they alleged of neglecting the plights of the people of the gateway state for 7 years. He painted such act as irresponsible and insensitive. He pledged unalloyed loyalty of the decampees to the ideals and constitution of PDP and the gubernatorial aspiration of Hon Ladi in 2019.
Adebutu, in his remarks, stated that PDP with its symbolic umbrella had enough space to accomodate everybody. He added that the welfarist agenda of PDP remained intact, as such, Ogun people should expect better times when PDP ascended power in 2019. He enjoined them to register for their Permanent Voters Cards.
Meanwhile, the Chairman, House Committee on Rural Development, Hon Ladi Adebutu visited River Orori in Aiyetoro which according to the residents, has been causing a lot of pains and discomfort to them overtime. The river, during raining season overflows its bank, thereby, making the Alaye road completely impassable to humans and vehicles.
Mr Nurudeen Alao, a resident of the area, chided the state government for its insensitivity and non response. “We have written several save our soul letters to the state government in respect of this challenge but no response nor visit since 7 years ago. Anytime it rains, all activities along that route are suspended. Even students of Alaye High School, Aiyetoro, won’t be able to go to school for 3 weeks. Examinations are put on hold or shifted to other schools in the town. Its a pathetic situation.”
Adebutu, however, assured the residents and road users of his commitment to finding a lasting solution to the problems posed by the river.
The billionaire businessman paid a courtesy visit to the palace of HRM Oba Azeez Adelakun, Akinola II, Alaye of Aiyetoro.
