The Ogun State government has been commended for being the first to create extensions and industrial parks among the 30 States involved in Technology Incubation Programme in the country.
The Centre Manager in Abeokuta, Dr. John Oni gave the commendation at the inauguration of the 11-man Technical Advisory Committee set up by the State government to enhance activities of the TIC programme.
Dr. Oni said the Centre established in 2001 to nurture the start-up and growth of new businesses engaged in value added and technology related activities had since its inception provided about 500 jobs for youths with about 20 of them being entrepreneurs producing different products.
According to him, such entrepreneurs made use of research results and use local raw materials to develop their products. Inaugurating the committee earlier, Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Otunba Bimbo Ashiru emphasized that the government took the step of extending the programme to the East and West Senatorial Districts of the State because of its conviction that TIC remained a veritable medium of promoting technology, entrepreneurs, employment generation and wealth creation in Ogun State.
Represented by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Commerce and Industry, Mrs Tinu Sopeju, Ashiru indicated that setting up 11 committee was another demonstration of government’s commitment to uplift the standard to an enviable height. Ashiru disclosed that already, various requests such as provision of an industrial borehole at the Abeokuta centre, providing 500KVA transformer and connecting the Odogbolu extension to the national grid were receiving the attention of the State Government, urging incubates of the centre to take advantage of the 1billion naira micro credit scheme funded jointly by the State Government and Bank of Industry (BOI) to enhance their business.
Responding on behalf of other members, the committee chairman, Olotu Lai Labode promised that they would their best and live up to expectation by contributing their quota to the progress of the TIC in Ogun State
