The Ogun State Government has taken decisive action by closing down three industries within the state due to their violation of various environmental regulations. The companies facing closure are Ruili Recycling Limited in Mowe, Robust International PTE Limited also in Mowe, and Star Pipe Limited in Sagamu.
The directive to shut down these companies came from Ogun State’s Commissioner for Environment, Ola Oresanya, as announced in a press release posted on the official InfoStride News handle. Oresanya outlined the specific environmental infractions committed by each company, leading to the government’s intervention.
Ruili Recycling Limited was found guilty of discharging its waste and stormwater into the immediate environment, notably on the premises of Christopher University. This action posed a significant risk to the students, prompting the government to step in. Additionally, the company failed to obtain drainage approval to channel unwanted water properly and was burning all solid waste within its premises, a clear violation of the state’s Environmental Laws.
Robust International PTE Limited faced charges related to the illegal demolition of a fence separating the company and Christopher University. The demolition was aimed at reclaiming land, and the company diverted stormwater into its premises. Despite government directives for proper remediation, Robust International PTE Limited failed to comply.
Star Pipe Limited, situated in Sagamu, was cited for not installing effluent treatment plants in its facilities. The company was found to be discharging raw and hydraulic acid into the immediate environment, leading to contamination of the groundwater in surrounding communities. This contamination rendered the water unsafe and unhygienic.
Commissioner Oresanya emphasized that the closures would remain in effect until the companies rectify all identified lapses and adhere to the state’s adopted global environmental standards. This stern action underscores the government’s commitment to enforcing environmental best practices and ensuring the well-being of communities and ecosystems within the state.
As Ogun State continues to prioritize environmental sustainability, these closures serve as a clear message to industries that flouting environmental regulations will not be tolerated. The government’s proactive approach in holding companies accountable for their actions is crucial for maintaining a healthy and sustainable environment for both current and future generations. The state’s adherence to global environmental standards reflects its dedication to creating a safe and eco-friendly living environment for its residents. InfoStride News will continue to monitor and report on developments related to environmental governance and corporate responsibility within Ogun State.
