The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Imo State has alleged that there is a secret plot by the state governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha, to return and seek re-election on its platform in 2015.
Speaking with journalists yesterday in Owerri, the state publicity secretary of APGA, Tony Mgbeahurike, noted that the doors of the party would continue to be shut so as not to accommodate the governor stressing that the party cannot afford to make a second mistake of fielding a candidate that would abandon the party.
Governor Okoroch in 2011, won election on the platform of APGA but later worked towards the formation of All Progressives Congress (APC) before he joined it.
Mgbeahurike said: “Governor Okorocha has been making secret approach to come back to APGA, I will advise him not to waste his time, because the party has permanently shut its doors to him a long time ago, we do not want to make the same mistake we made before”.
The Imo APGA spokesman dismissed the allegations of any crisis in the party saying: “the war of words between Ihenacho and Agbaso does not translate to crisis, both of them do not translate to 100 percent of APGA”.
He warned that any member of the party or aspirant who attempts to destabilize the party would be properly sanctioned.
In a quick response, the governor, through his Senior Special Assistant (SSA) Media, Sam Onwuemeodo, stated that he can never stoop so low as to go back to the party he dumped.
“Why would he even beg the party, APGA would rather beg him to come back, it is false and laughable”, Onwuemeodo said.
