The Oluwo of Iwo, Oba Adewale Akanbi, has called on President Bola Tinubu to hold governors and House of Assembly members accountable for the hardship Nigerians are experiencing.
Speaking to journalists in his palace on Wednesday, Oba Akanbi emphasized the need for governors and National Assembly members to explain why Nigerians are suffering despite the substantial federal allocation shared by the government.
The monarch expressed confidence that the current hardship facing the country is temporary and suggested that the federal government’s economic measures are appropriate.

He stated, “What is going on in Nigeria now is temporary. Economists will tell you that the step that the federal government is taking is the right one.
There is no way residents can get money except through the governors, senators, House of Representatives members, and council chairmen.”
Highlighting the significant allocation provided to the states by the federal government, Oba Akanbi questioned why Nigerians are still facing hunger.
He suggested that those responsible for distributing the funds might not be using them effectively.
“The allocation being given to the state now is large, and no government has given such an allocation before.
The subsidy money is being given out by the federal government. So, why are Nigerians still hungry? It means something is wrong with those getting the funds,” he remarked.
The Oluwo of Iwo urged President Tinubu to demand accountability from governors and other officials, suggesting that they might be prioritizing their interests over the welfare of the people.
He emphasized the importance of transparent and responsible use of public funds during this challenging period.
