In line with its corporate social responsibility initiative of lifting the people, the Senator Buruji Kashamu-inspired Omoilu Foundation on Thursday reached out to eight victims of the Ikenne fire incident.
The victims, who received between N150,000 and N500,000, lost goods, shops, cash and personal effects during the incident.
Speaking during presentation, the Coordinator of the Foundation in Ogun State, Otunba (Comrade) Niyi Osoba said: “At Omoilu Foundation, we are committed to creating platforms that positively affect the living condition of the masses because we understand that if our people are adequately taken care of, our collective development as a nation will increase as well. This is why we are supporting the victims of this unfortunate fire incident with the sum N2.2M and we will continue to reach out to as many as possible in the future.
“We know that the government can’t do it alone. That is why we decided to reach out to the victims with the belief that you are going to put it to judicious use. It would go a long way to help out. Please stay peaceful and remain focused.
“Senator Buruji Kashamu wants you all to go back to the drawing board and start all over again. The good Lord will continue to be with you. We pray not to witness this kind of incident again. We share in your feelings beyond mere symbolism and showmanship. That is why Omoilu Foundation has come to support you.”
Earlier, the Coordinator of the Foundation in Ikenne Local Government Area, Mr. Segun Awoyomi said eight victims were recommended for financial assistance out of which seven who are shop owners got between N150,000 and N350,000, while the owner of the building raised down by fire, Alhaji Abibu Sogunwa received N500,000.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Alhaji Usein Lawal thanked Senator Kashamu for the gesture.
“I still don’t know what to say because I don’t usually believe in our politicians. Senator Kashamu has changed my mentality towards politicians. We can’t thank him enough and we pray to Allah to spare his life for us,” Lawal said.
