One year after the killing of protesters during the International Quds Day in Zaria, Kaduna State, the leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria, Sheikh Ibraheem El-Zakzaky has reiterated its demand for the culprits to be brought book.
No fewer than 34 members of the movement were shot dead by soldiers during a pro-Palestine procession in Zaria. Three of those shot dead were the Islamic movement leader’s sons.
A statement by the media arm of the movement signed by Ibrahim Usman quoted the scholar as “calling on the government to as a matter of justice and fair play arraign and punish perpetrators of last year’s Quds Day killings in Zaria”.
“To this day, none of these people have been questioned or interrogated. If a criminal can execute heinous crimes, boast of it and be left parading as security officer, then there is no law in this country”, he added.
He said only a lawless society could accommodate “known and identified murderers and criminals, while freely boasting of their atrocities at the same time parading themselves as security officers of the country without any remorse”.
Sheikh Zakzaky said “These (killers) people must be punished. That is all we want. Whether the government does it or not, this is our demand”.
The statement said the fact that former President Goodluck Jonathan called Sheikh El-Zakzaky 24 days after the killings to say “sorry”, was not just enough.
