The member representing Oyo South Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Senator Olufemi Lanlehin, has dumped the All Progressives Congress.
The Senator, who made this known in a letter to the Senate President – David Mark – on Thursday, indicated that he had transferred his membership to the Accord Party.
Lanlehin explained that he got elected into the red chamber of the on the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.
He, however, said the ACN in 2013, merged with other political parties to form the APC, an action he noted, did not get his support.
The senator said his action was in exercise of his constitutional rights to freedom of association as enshrined in the 1999 constitution as amended, and pursuant to the provision contained in section 68 (g).
He said, “I decided to transfer my membership of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria to the Accord Party with all the rights and duties accruing thereto”.
The Senate President, however, had yet to read Lanlehin’s letter of defection on the floor.
