PARTNER WITH RELEVANT AGENCIES PERMANENT SECRETARY URGES

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Information and Communications, Mrs. Cordelia Peterside has called on the Peace Corps of Nigeria to partner with relevant Government Agencies like Ministry of Education and Ministry of Youth Affairs to achieve set goals.

Mrs. Peterside made the call yesterday when members of the Peace Corp paid her a courtesy visit in her office.
She noted that with the security situation that was in the State before Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi came into office, the State needs to partner any organization that will ensure that the peace experienced now is sustained.

The Permanent Secretary assured that the Governor would welcome the Corp’s contribution in their outreach programme to sensitize students and teachers on the ills of examination malpractice and cultism.
Mrs. Peterside promised to assist the body with media coverage and urged them to furnish the Ministry with details of their programme.
In his address, the Supervising Commander Peace Corps of Nigeria, Mutairu Odion Habib commended the Governor of Rivers State, for empowering the youths and providing quality education for them.
Mutairu stated that the purpose of the visit was advocacy adding that Rivers State is the only State in the Country without a command noting that approval has been given for the establishment of the body in the State.
The Supervising Commandant listed some of the objective of the body as peace and conflict resolution, capacity building, fighting social vices like cultism and examination malpractice in schools.
He explained that the Peace Corps is an International Organization established by John F. Kennedy a former American President which is recognized by the United Nations Organization.
He thanked the Permanent Secretary for the audience and pledged to work with the Government to ensure that the Peace currently enjoyed in the State is sustained.
