The abductors of Tony Aziegbemi, the Edo State chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), have reportedly contacted his family, demanding a ransom of N500 million, nine days after he was kidnapped.
Aziegbemi was abducted by six gunmen on Friday, March 15, 2024, at the entrance of his house at 11 pm, following a meeting with Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, at Government House.
The abductors left his driver unharmed.

A family source, speaking anonymously, revealed that the abductors contacted the family in the early hours of last Friday, demanding the ransom during the conversation.
In response to inquiries, the Public Relations Officer of the Edo State Police Command, Chidi Nwabuzor, stated that he was not aware of any ransom demand, but could only confirm information within his knowledge.
Prior to the ransom demand, a family member identified as Sam Ogbeiye had appealed to the kidnappers to spare Aziegbemi’s life and contact the family.
He also urged security agencies to intensify efforts to secure his freedom.
Edo State Police Commissioner, Funsho Adegboye, disclosed that the police tactical team, along with vigilante groups and hunters, is combing the bush and creeks in a bid to rescue the victim unharmed.
