Contrary to speculation that President Muhammadu Buhari was a ‘no-show’ at a key NEPAD session of the 25th African Union (AU) Summit holding in Johannesburg, despite reportedly arriving in South Africa last night, we can authoritatively confirm that the president only departed Nigeria Saturday morning.
On Friday, we had reported, based on a press release from the Presidency that Mr. Buhari would leave Nigeria on Saturday for South Africa, where he would be undertaking his first continental assignment since his inauguration on May 29, 2015 by chairing the meeting of the Peace and Security Committee of the AU summit.
President Buhari left via the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, around 8:49AM accompanied by Governors Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun) and Samuel Ortom (Benue).
