The Kogi State Police Command has confirmed the brutal attack on a second-year student of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara, Usman Tijani, by his friend, Abdulmuqeet Musari.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Williams Aya, disclosed to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Thursday in Lokoja that the suspect is in police custody and under investigation.
“The suspect has been in our custody, and the investigation is ongoing. He will be arraigned on completion of the investigation,” Aya said.

Providing further details, the Chairman of Adavi Local Government Area, Mr. Bashiru Okatenwu, stated in a press release that the incident occurred on December 23, around 8 p.m. near Adavi Burial Ground, New Zango, Adavi.
According to Okatenwu’s Media Aide, Suleiman Acheneje, the victim, a 200-level student in the Department of Cyber Security at CUSTECH, was left critically injured following the attack.
“In the late hours of December 23, between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., a tragic incident occurred near the Adavi Burial Ground, where a young boy, Usman Tijani, was brutally attacked by Abdulmuqeet Musari, whose intent was, no doubt, to kill him.
“The victim was found nearly dead and rescued around 2 a.m. in New Zango, Adavi LGA. He was immediately rushed to Lokoja, where he has been receiving treatment in a hospital,” the statement read.
Okatenwu revealed that the suspect fled after the attack but was later apprehended in Ekiti State through collaborative efforts between local security operatives and community intelligence.
A family member of the victim, Zainab Avosuahu, took to her Facebook page to provide additional context.
She alleged that Musari lured Tijani into a bush, robbed him of N200,000, and attempted to kill him by slitting his throat.
“The 19-year-old victim, who runs a POS business, is currently undergoing surgery in a hospital in Lokoja,” Avosuahu posted.
Okatenwu assured residents of Adavi LGA of his administration’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property, expressing gratitude to all involved in ensuring the suspect was apprehended.
