The Yobe State Police Command has arrested four suspects over various crimes, including rape, illegal possession of firearms, and assault on law enforcement officers.
The Command’s spokesperson, SP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Saturday, noting that one of the suspects is a 19-year-old alleged serial rapist.
According to the statement, the suspect, identified as Dahiru Ali of Hayin Kwari in Potiskum, was arrested by operatives of the Potiskum Divisional Police Headquarters for allegedly defiling a three-year-old girl in the Mutawassada area.
“Further investigation revealed that the suspect had earlier committed a similar offence against another three-year-old girl in the same neighbourhood but in a different house.
He lured the children with sweets and milk to a secluded location, where he molested them. The suspect has confessed to the crime, and investigation is ongoing,” the statement read.
In a separate case, the Command disclosed that operatives of A Division Police Headquarters, Damaturu, arrested one Ibrahim Alhaji Ahmadu, 24, of Dusuwa Village in the Kalallawa area of Damaturu. Ahmadu allegedly trespassed on a farmer’s land and threatened him with a firearm during a confrontation.
“The suspect was arrested through a well-coordinated sting operation, and a shotgun with live ammunition was recovered from him,” the Police stated.
The Command further revealed that two additional suspects are in custody for attacking police operatives in Nguru while on official duty, describing the incident as an attack on constituted authority.
Yobe State Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Ado, strongly condemned the incidents, stressing that the Command maintains a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of criminality. He warned offenders to desist or face decisive consequences.
Ado also called on parents and guardians to closely monitor their children to protect them from predators, while assuring residents that the Police would continue to intensify efforts to ensure safety and security across the state.
