Yoruba actress, Mercy Aigbe, was on Monday, April 27, arrested by Policemen in Osogbo, Osun State capital, multiple reports say.
The actress and her driver were said to have been arrested for allegedly displaying a police cap on her car’s dash board, which attracted the Officers’ attention.
According to Vanguard, after the minor clash had been seemingly settled and the actress’ seized vehicle particulars released to her, another set of armed policemen surfaced at the scene and re-arrested Aigbe alongside her driver.
Eyewitnesses said that the actress, who had been travelling in a gold-coloured Honda Accord, was flagged down while driving towards Olaiya Junction in Osogbo.
Another source claimed that Aigbe’s vehicle was seized because her driver was making a call while driving.
Her presence, according to reports, immediately attracted a large crowd at the ever-busy Orita-Olaiya, which almost led to the policemen being mobbed.
Aigbe, visibly upset at this point, had been seen making calls presumably to a ‘higher’ authority who could talk down the Officers.
It was gathered that after the actress and her co-travellers had been released, about five new armed Officers arrived at the scene again, fired several shots into the air and took Aigbe and her entourage away.
Confirming the incident, the assistant Police Public Relations Office, PPRO, Osun state Police command, ASP Egbedele, said it was a minor traffic issue which has been resolved.
