The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed that an angry mob lynched an unidentified man suspected of attempting to commit a crime in Port Harcourt.
In a statement, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, disclosed that the body of the man was discovered along Olu Obasanjo Road.
“Preliminary findings suggest that the individual may have been lynched by an angry mob at the scene while attempting to commit a crime.
His remains were subsequently dumped on the road and struck by a fast-moving vehicle, resulting in significant bodily damage,” Iringe-Koko stated.
She added, “On November 9, 2024, at about 10:30 a.m., the Rivers State Police Command received a report of an unidentified corpse lying near Ayama Junction/Ikokwu Spare Parts Market along Olu-Obasanjo Road, Port Harcourt.
Our operatives promptly responded to the scene. Upon investigation, it was discovered that the deceased was allegedly known for serial burglary and stealing in Ikokwu and surrounding areas.”
Iringe-Koko confirmed that all vital organs were intact and that the body has been evacuated.
She noted that a thorough investigation is underway to uncover the details surrounding the incident.
The police urged the public to assist with any information that could aid the ongoing investigation.
