The Nigeria Police Force has debunked a viral video circulating on social media that purportedly shows uniformed personnel in camouflage scooping fuel from the wreckage of a tanker accident.
In a statement issued on Monday via X (formerly Twitter), Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, clarified that the individuals in the video are not officers of the Nigeria Police Force.
“The viral video circulating in the media that depicts uniformed personnel in camouflage scooping fuel from the wreckage of an accidented tanker was just released to discredit the Nigeria Police Force,” the statement read.
Adejobi explained that the individuals in the video are personnel from a neighboring francophone country, whose camouflage uniforms closely resemble those of the Nigerian police.
He further noted that the officers in the footage were speaking French, not English or any Nigerian language, confirming their identity as foreign personnel.
“The captured officers were speaking in French, not a Nigerian language or English,” Adejobi stated.
The police condemned the spread of unverified and misleading content, urging the public to refrain from sharing such disinformation aimed at tarnishing the image of the Nigeria Police Force.
