Officials of the Ministry of Police Affairs and the Police High Command have been asked to forge a greater synergy in their operations towards putting the Nigeria Police Force on a better footing to tackle the security challenges confronting the nation.
The Supervising Minister of Police Affairs, Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide gave the charge at separate meetings with the Management of the Ministry and the Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
According to the Minister, the Federal Government’s efforts to improve the lot of the Police through the Reform Programme will not achieve the desired results, if the Ministry and the Police do not operate on the same wavelength and said there is no better time for that than now, with the current wave of insurgency in some parts of the country.
The Force, according to her, had never had it so good as it does under the Goodluck Jonathan’s Administration. She further expressed the belief that the Administration will, at the conclusion of the Reform programme, bequeath to the nation a Police Force that is professionally comparable to any in the world.
Oloye Jumoke Akinjide used the meeting to call on Nigerians to be more security conscious, taking note of the activities of people around them and promptly reporting the undesirable ones to the Police and other law-enforcement agencies.
She promised to give the necessary political and administrative back-up to the Ministry and the Nigeria Police Force to enable the two perform to their optimum within the period of her supervision of the Ministry and solicited the required cooperation to enable her succeed.
The Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. James Obiegbu assured the Supervising Minister of the absolute loyalty of Management and Staff of the Ministry, stressing that their commitment to achieving the goals of the Federal Government in the Police Reform programme is total.
President Goodluck Jonathan recently appointed Oloye Olajumoke Akinjide, who is also the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory to oversee the affairs of the Ministry of Police Affairs, following some changes in the Cabinet.
