Operatives of the Imo State Police Command successfully rescued four kidnap victims on Saturday in a coordinated operation, according to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, on Sunday.
The operation followed a distress call reporting the abduction of four persons in Umuokanne, Ohaji Local Government Area of Imo State.
Adejobi stated that police operatives swiftly located the kidnappers’ hideout and engaged them in a fierce gun battle, resulting in the neutralization of two suspects.

“The success of the operation led to the rescue of the four victims and the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, one AK-47 magazine, and 21 rounds of live 7.62mm ammunition,” the statement read.
Jungle Justice in Ebonyi
In a separate incident, police operatives attached to the Ebonyi State Command arrested 17 suspects for their involvement in the murder of Uromchi Okorocha in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo Local Government Area.
Adejobi revealed that the deceased had been accused by local youths of committing several murders through alleged witchcraft.
The suspects apprehended Okorocha but instead of handing him over to legal authorities, they killed and burned him before police operatives arrived.
“The suspects became judge, jury, and executioner, taking the law into their own hands,” Adejobi stated.

“Citizens are once again urged to refrain from taking laws into their hands and report any suspected criminal activities to the nearest police division or formation for appropriate action,” Egbetokun said.
He reiterated the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensuring public safety and bringing perpetrators of violent crimes to justice.
The IGP encouraged citizens to engage with security agencies by providing information that could assist in fostering a safe and secure society.
“The Nigeria Police Force remains ever committed to ensuring a safe environment for everyone,” the statement concluded.
