    Police Rescue Zamfara Emir From Kidnappers

    emir of bukkuyumAfter spending five days in the hands of his abductors, the Emir of Bukkuyum in Zamafara State, Alhaji Muhammadu Usman, was in the wee hours of Wednesday rescued by men of the Nigerian Police.

    The Emir, who has been on the throne for 14 years, was reportedly kidnapped by unknown gunmen around 8pm last Friday while he was praying inside a mosque opposite his house.

    Confirming the development to a ChannelsTV correspondent, the Zamfara State Police Commissioner, Mr. Femi Ogunbayode, said the 60-year-old emir was rescued by the police at Gajazema Village, a border town between Zamfara and Kebbi States in the early hours of Wednesday.

    According to him, the kidnappers were caught at the border community around 1am this morning as they were about to flee to Kebbi State with their victim.

    However, upon sighting the police team, Ogunbayode noted that the kidnappers abandoned the emir and fled into the bush to evade arrest.

    The police boss further stated that the Emir was hale and hearty at the time he was rescued adding that no ransom was paid for his release as demanded by the kidnappers.
