ABUJA (Federal Ministry of Power Report) – The Minister of Power, Chinedu Nebo (Professor) has inaugurated an Inter-Agency Delivery Team on the Azura Independent Power Project to enable full realization of the project on scheduled time.
In a brief ceremony held recently in Abuja, the Minister urged the team to fast – track the completion of the Independent Power Project (IPP) located in Edo State; saying it is a gas-fired plant aimed at increasing the quantity of power supply available to the national grid. He added that the project when completed as planned would give foreign investors more confidence to invest in similar power projects in the country as the success story will be worthy of emulation by would-be investors.
The Minister, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Godknows Igali (Dr) stated that the Azura Project will create a platform and a template for other projects to succeed, considering its serious packaging strategy. He also wished all members success in their endeavours, reminding them that they are the people who will bring the mission project to accomplishment.
Godknows Igali disclosed that the Terms of Reference handed over to the team includes: To facilitate all regulatory and commercial issues for the closure of the financing of the project; To monitor implementation and ensure that the high expectations from the project are met and engaging in any other assignments to facilitate the implementation of the project.
He listed the following as members of the team: Office of the HM – Prof. Frank Edozie (Senior Special Assistant on Gas, Team Leader; Representative of Edo State Government; Federal Ministry of Finance – Dozie Okpalaobieri; Representative of Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission; the Central Bank of Nigeria – Yinka Balogun; Nigerian Bulk Electricity Trading Company (NBET) – Omotayo Hassan; Representative of the Federal Ministry of Justice; the Federal Ministry of Power – E.O. Ajayi (Engr); Azura Representative – David Ladipo; the Representative of the World Bank and the Representative of the Bankers.
While responding to the agenda set by the Minister, the leader of the team, Frank Edozie (Professor), who is the Senior Special Assistant to the Minister of Power in-charge of Gas said that the members will justify the confidence reposed on them by the Ministry through working assiduously and utilizing the terms of reference as its guides. He assured the Minister that his team will do all that is needed to ensure that the project is completed on time.
