The US President, Joe Biden, issued an appeal to Republicans in Congress, urging them to help protect Americans from the dangers posed by gun violence, and he commended local authorities for their efforts to locate the shooter who was responsible for the deaths of 18 people in Maine.
A self-inflicted gunshot wound was found in the body of the Army reserve who had opened fire in a bowling alley and subsequently at a bar in Lewiston, Maine on Wednesday night.
His body was discovered dead on Friday.
That brought an end to a thorough hunt for the shooter that had lasted for two days.
Biden stated that the shooting incident and the tense search for the shooter has been devastating “not just for Lewiston, Maine, but for our entire country.”
“The shooting spree has been devastating for the families of those killed and injured, leaving scores of family and friends praying and experiencing trauma that no one ever wants to imagine,” he said in a statement released late on Friday night.
“No one ever wants to imagine having to go through something like this.”
He lauded the police for the thorough search that had been conducted over the course of two days.
A large number of courageous law enforcement agents have been working around the clock to locate this individual and stop the loss of any more innocent lives while also putting their own lives in danger.
According to what he said, they are the finest of us.
He extended his gratitude to Governor Janet Mills of Maine for the steadfast leadership she has shown throughout this crisis. In addition, he stated that his administration “would provide everything that is needed to support the people of Maine.” In addition to this, he requested assistance from Congress.
He stated that the standard of living in the United States of America should not be this low. I am renewing my appeal to Republican members of Congress to live up to their responsibility of ensuring the well-being of the American people.
As long as that day has not yet arrived, I am going to keep doing all in my ability to put an end to this plague of gun violence. The community of Lewiston, along with the rest of the United States, deserves nothing less.
