The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended President Bola Tinubu for his directive to investigate the alleged N585 million scandal involving the Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Betta Edu.
The minister has been under scrutiny for purportedly violating Nigeria’s Financial Regulations 2009, which mandate the segregation of public and personal funds in government transactions.
In response to this development, President Tinubu, through the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Muhammed Idris, instructed a thorough and comprehensive investigation into the financial imbroglio.
In a statement, Pedro Chibuzo Obi, the President of NANS, expressed support for the President’s decision, stating, “The scandal enveloping the Humanitarian Ministry, if left unaddressed by the President, would challenge the administration’s commitment to combating corruption.”
Obi further emphasized the significance of combating corruption in Nigeria’s development and economic progress.
He praised President Tinubu for his unwavering dedication to eradicating corruption, stating, “President Tinubu’s resolute stance against corruption is evident. It is clear that this administration is steadfast in its fight against corruption within the confines of the law.”
While acknowledging the administration’s efforts in combating corruption, Obi urged President Tinubu to ensure transparency in the investigation to bolster public trust.
This move by the President has demonstrated his administration’s commitment to upholding accountability and transparency in governance.
The National Association of Nigerian Students looks forward to the outcome of the investigation and remains hopeful that it will reinforce the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and promoting good governance.
