President Goodluck Jonathan has Saturday tasked Muslims to imbibe the virtues of piety, tolerance and fairness to all as the holy month of Ramadan begins.
Jonathan made the call in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Dr. Reuben Abati.
He also urged Nigerians not to succumb to despair, but to remain steadfast in the firm conviction that with courage, determination, focus, decisiveness and collective support for the Armed Forces and security agencies, the country will ultimately overcome the evil agents of sectionalism, sectarianism and international terrorism who seek to disunite the nation.
Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon Aminu Waziri Tambuwal,in his own Ramadan message urged Muslims to use the fasting period to pray for the country, and to rededicate themselves to the service of God and humanity.
Tambuwal, in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Affairs, Malam Imam Imam, said with prayers, the country would overcome the current security challenges facing it.
He said the Holy month provides opportunity for increased worship, making of peace, strengthening of ties and doing away with bad habits. “We must all seize these opportunities for the betterment of ourselves, our families and our nation,” he added.
